And They All Fall Down

Seriously now, who doesn't find Autumn the most beautiful season?  I just can't help myself.  As much as I want my favorite season to be Spring, or even Summer, hands down (or should I say leaves down), Autumn rules.  Although my favorite color has always been green, (Spring again), I'm fast faaallling in love with orange and yellow.  The color combinations that make up this season are breath-taking.  Yep, I'm seriously out of breath (I'm sure it has nothing to do with the crazy year we've had).

Not only is Autumn full of colorful splendors, but it's a last hurrah of sorts.  Especially living up in the northern tundra of the U.S. of A.  We rush to squeeze in the last BBQ and pool party, admire our failing blooms, take our bikes for a quick spin, (just so we can say we rode them this year), and run around outdoors in our tanks and shorts wayyyy longer than tempts practically allow. As beautiful as it is now, we know what's coming!  And, apparently so do the birds and squirrels.  They are really psychotic possessed crazed frantic silly this time of year.  They know what's coming too!!!

Kitchen Remodel

John and I decided it was time to post some kitchen photos.  The whole process went extremely fast since we moved in the end of Sept and had to have the whole house updated before graduation in May.  We look back now and see things we should have done differently, but for the most part we are pleased.  And if you know me...I'm never REALLY finished with a project.  I just keep adding.  Enjoy, and feel free to comment.  Check out the "Kitchen Works" page to see more photos.

2011 Harvest

The 2011 harvest season is finally upon us.  We REALLY thought it would never get here.  The late Winter snow falls and endless Spring rains made planting almost impossible.  This year's plans were to put in lentils, barley and durum.  With field conditions the worse they've been in years (standing water, mud, washed out roads, etc) we were really fortunate to sow any seed.  June, however, did dry up and finally warm up enough to get about 1/3 of our crops planted.  Durum only.

But alas, it's harvest time.  My (and John's) favorite time of year.  As farmers we find ourselves glued to the weather channel.  Praying for no rain, now we need rain, heat, okay that's enough heat, please don't hail, too much wind.  It's really in God's hands and our faith is often tested.  But, come harvest time we can send up our halleluhas.  There is no better joy than to watch the combine roll down the field.  Awe, did I say I love harvest.

I do have to admit though,  I have the easy job.  John and I farm together as a team but at harvest time I get the better deal.  My job is to run the combine.  It is air conditioned, is equipped with a great stereo system, has an awesome air-ride seat, is totally computerized, and with the latest gps technology pretty much drives itself.  Awwwesome!  John's at the other end.  His job is to drive the grain trucks and auger grain into the bins.  Not an easy task.  No air, itchy chaff clinging to your sweaty body, terrible grain dust, up and down ladders, a lot of walking, and man...it's hot here in August & September.  Plus, he really has to hustle to keep up.  Poor guy.  Now planting season is another story.  We'll get to that in May.

The Fall Line-up

The durum this year was extremely short.

My hubby's looking good.

Blessed By Briley

Little Girls

Author: Karen Barnes
Little girls are made of daisies and butterflies and soft kitty cat purrs
And all the precious memories of times that once were.

Little girls are made of angel's wings and giggles and a firefly's glow
And all the happy feelings, deep inside, that we all know.

Little girls are made of cinnamon and bubbles and fancy white pearls
And snowflakes and rainbows and ballerina twirls.

Little girls are made of sunshine and cupcakes and fresh morning dew,
And these are the reasons, little one, why everyone loves you.
Our Granddaughter.

A Vision Unfolds

Our house is now a home.
It feels like the before hung around way too long,
but alas, the after has arrived.

We purchased our home in the fall of 2007.
There were two trees in the front side by side but by the time
I snapped this photo John had already chopped one down.
I knew this house had good bones and lots of
potential.

Taking out the driveway was a must.  The courtyard gives
our family privacy and takes away
the converted garage look.

Taking out one of the two mountain ash trees
was a must also. Sometimes less is best.

Check out the "Before...Almost...After" page for
pictures of the whole process.
